西村祐馬は 1995 年生まれ。2018 年日本大学芸術学部デザイン学科を卒業。ビジュ
アル・アーティスト、写真家、グラフィックデザイナー。個人の存在を未来まで遺
すことをコンセプトに制作を続ける。ケビン・ケリーやレイ・カーツワイルなどの
未来学者に影響を受け、人類の進歩とテクノロジーの進化が及ぼすメリットとデメ
リットを漠然とした未来像から写真を通して日常の光景へと現像する。外身と中
身の構造を考察することで、人類がクローンや AI などによって精神と肉体の関係
から解放された次の人類の在り方を観るものに訴える。これまでに 229GALLERY
にて個展「Bilateral Reminiscence」、「KG+SELECT2023」にてファイナリスト、
「TOKYO FRONTLINE PHOTO AWARD 2022」にて審査員個人賞を受賞するなど、
精力的に作品の発表を続ける。

Yuma Nishimura was born in 1995. Visual Artist, Photographer, Graphic
Designer. He has been creating projects with the idea of leaving one’s
existence behind for future discovery as the concept. By considering
internal and external structures, he elucidates the ideal state of the
next level of humankind, where their physical body and consciousness
are no longer connected, due to clones, AI, etc. He has received awards
and honors such as being a KG+Select 2023 finalist, and receiving an
individual jury award from the TOKYO FRONTLINE PHOTO AWARD 2022.

Statement

人はイメージを無垢な目で見ることはできず、そこには象徴的な意味がつねに伴う。心が無意識下でおこなうこの象徴化の作用を、すべてキャッチすることは不可能だ。だからこそ私たちは、意味も分からず一枚の写真を、愛したり不気味がったりするのだろう。

本展「Liminal Mind」で展開されるのは、現実と夢、感情と記憶の交錯。鑑賞者は、会場をさまよいながら、イメージと遭遇することになる。そこでは日常において抑圧された、目に見えないもの・語りえぬものが、あなたにささやく。微細な心のはたらきに耳を傾けるとき、私たちは新たな自己理解を得るかもしれない。イメージとは結局、あなたの鏡なのだから。

One cannot look at an image with unbiased eyes; observation is always accompanied by symbolic meaning. It is impossible to catch every single mental leap we take to reach these symbols and conclusions.This is perhaps why we may love or even be unsettled by a photograph without knowing exactly why. 

What unfolds in this exhibition, “Liminal Mind” is an intersection of reality and dreams, emotions and memories. Viewers will encounter images as they wander through the exhibition space. Here, unseeable and unexplainable things that are suppressed in everyday life whisper to you. When we listen to the subtle workings of the mind, we may gain a new understanding of ourselves. Images are, after all, a looking glass into yourself.
